With music enriched with shimmering light effects and infinite colour play, composer Unsuk Chin is a unique artist, who defies stereotypes. Born in South Korea and currently living in Berlin, she consciously seeks to compose music that is liberated from traditions and instead evolves from dreams and a curiosity to create a completely new world of sound.
Since meeting the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for the first time in 2018, Unsuk Chin is now back to collect the time-honoured Léonie Sonning Music Prize in a concert led by Chief Conductor Fabio Luisi.
The concert opens with Chorós Chordón – Dance of the Strings – where spherical sounds for the grand symphony orchestra provide a focused and fascinating insight into Unsuk Chin’s sense of the most refined musical details. And in the piano concerto, with Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontes as soloist, Unsuk Chin pushes the limits of the physically possible in this hyper virtuoso playful music.
In the major work Le Chant des Enfants des Étoiles – The Song of Children of the Stars – Unsuk Chin transforms the concert hall into a huge sonorous cosmos and invites the listeners to walk through the heavens; an unparralled experience.
