Series T3 - Musical Adventures
The rich sound of the orchestra is displayed in its entirety in an array of fantastical works. What’s more, this colourful Thursday series features star-studded appearances by international guest artists.
It often feels as though symphonic music is telling a story without words. And many of the great composers have written works that depict a myth, a drama, a poem – or an entire adventure from beginning to end.
In this series, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra draws you into a musical fairytale world with famous tales like Romeo and Juliet, Don Juan and Hans Christian Andersen’s The little Mermaid and The Snow Queen – alongside heady mythical scenarios like: The Afternoon of a Faun, Le sacre du printemps and Pan and Syrinx.
A broad, classical repertoire is also part of the series – from Brahms’s lyrical 3rd symphony and Schubert’s great 9th symphony, to piano concertos by Chopin and Rachmaninoff, and two of Mahler’s most enchanting works.
In terms of artistry, the series comes well-equipped: the piano phenomenon that is Khatia Buniatishvili and the German master violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann feature amongst the soloists, joined by two stunning tenors and prominent conductors like Herbert Blomstedt, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Chief Conductor Fabio Luisi.
