De Niese & Dido and Aeneas
Koncertsalen
21. november 2024 KL. 19.30
She has taken the opera world by storm. With rare artistic range and unique on-stage charisma, soprano Danielle de Niese performs for the first time with The Danish National Symphony Orchestra, appearing as two of the most remarkable female characters in the operatic literature. She is Dido in Purcell's baroque tragedy and is sisters Anna and Anna in Weill's sharp, cabaret-inspired satire, still so resonant in our own time.
Dido is a noble queen, sacrificing her life for her beloved. She loves the beautiful Aeneas, a hero who has fled the destruction of Troy. Facing her own death, unable to live without him, Dido sings the immortal words: "Remember me, but ah! forget my fate".
Sisters Anna and Anna sing "We are not really two people, just one" in The Seven Deadly Sins by Brecht and Weill. In Anna’s melodies, pragmatism meets idealism, reason meets emotion, song meets dance. This is a brilliant role for Danielle de Niese, who "highlights what she sings with her entire body" (Politiken).
Both opera performances are presented in concert versions.
