Saint Matthew Passion
Koncertsalen
28. marts 2024 KL. 19.30
The world-famous Danish composer Bent Sørensen has created a new St Matthew Passion for choir, soloists and orchestra, and this evening the work is finally being performed for the first time in Denmark.
For a number of years, Bent Sørensen has been working on his Matthew Passion, and it has become a highly personal work. As in the Matthew Passion of Johann Sebastian Bach, which was composed 300 years ago, Bent Sørensen’s passion has been written for a double choir, two orchestral sections and four song soloists. But, unlike Bach, Sørensen’s work only lasts for one hour, and the composer does not follow the entire text from St. Matthew’s Gospel. Instead, he has put together a unique text collage, including poetry by such writers as Søren Ulrik Thomsen, Edith Södergran and Anna Akhmatova.
Bent Sørensen always captivates the listener with his delicate sounds and nuances. His St. Matthew Passion is a very personal and heartfelt work that simultaneously has a monumental impact on the listener. This first Danish performance takes place just before Easter week and is conducted by the French Ludovic Morlot.
