Why do we remember? Why do we forget? How can you remember better? What are some of the ways we can train ourselves to remember the important things? What can neuroscience tell us about curiosity and learning? Why is it that giving your brain a chance to actively struggle to remember something is more effective than passive memorization?
We often think that remembering should be an effortless process and experience frustration when our memory fails us. Science, however, tells us that the problem isn’t our memories, but rather our expectations about what memory is for. Most of our experiences will be forgotten, and that is by design, because memory isn’t supposed to be a repository of the past. It is a resource to draw upon to understand the present and navigate an uncertain future.
This evening, Charan Ranganath will present the new understanding of memory that is emerging from scientific research and explain why what we think of as flaws in memory are actually features that help us to plan, predict, and imagine. He will also provide tips on how to keep our memories accurate in an age of misinformation and how to preserve memory function into old age, so that you can hold onto the memories that matter.
All this will take place just after the trio Track/Abdullah/Rock combines electronic music with live instruments in a unique musical universe.
Event held in English with the generous support of the Lundbeck Foundation.
